Every once in awhile you have those near-death experiences that make you come so close to death, you wonder how you made it out alive. Well, I had another one of those experiences last night.

It was Dan's 30th birthday party up at one of our favorite bars. We all had a lot of fun and when they kicked us out, we decided to do after hours up in Grimes. I was driving my car with Eric riding shotgun and we were following our new friend Kim out to her place in Grimes to pick up the booze.

We take the side streets until we get to the divided highway going up to Grimes. There are two lanes going north and two lanes going south with a ditch in between them. The time we got to that stretch of road we happened to be next to everyone else riding home in the minivan. They were in the lead in the right lane, then Kim was in the left lane next to them and I was right behind Kim. The stretch of road is very dark and there's nothing around the area.

Eric and I are cruising along talking when all of a sudden Kim's brakelights light up and she slams on her brakes. This caught me off guard and I slow down suddenly coming within 20 feet of her rear bumper. She then suddenly jumps over to the right lane behind the minivan. My eyes followed her car and I was thinking what was going on, is there a deer up ahead or something in the road? My eyes slowly come back to my lane and that's when I see two headlights coming right at me. Without even thinking I jerk the wheel to the right, my car gets in the right lane and some car flies by me doing about 80 mph. I think we missed each other by less than 10 feet.

Eric immediately starts freaking out, I start laughing. He then tells me that he didn't have his seatbelt on, I tell him it wouldn't have mattered. For 2 cars going that fast in a head-on collision, you'd be lucky if anyone made it out alive.

We finally get to our friend's place and we are hysterical sharing our stories. We all knew that car could have hit anyone of us, but we all made it out unharmed.

I woke up early today and couldn't fall back asleep. It was running through my mind over and over and I was having flashbacks of the headlights coming at me. Let's hope this doesn't make me any more messed up than I already am!

XM VS Sirius

I'm throwing this post out there to get some comments from all you readers (people still read this?).

A friend of mine is wanting to buy a satellite radio for their significant other, but can't decide on whether to buy a XM radio or a Sirius radio.

I haven't really heard either and don't know of the differences between the two. I have heard bits of it in the past from friends that have had one of the satellite radios.

I did a bit of research and both services are VERY similar to what they offer. Only main differences I see is the exclusive talk radio stations they offer.

If anyone of there on the interwebs has an opinion on which is better, please leave a comment. My friend asked me to post this on my blog to get some responses, so please comment and let me know what YOU think is better to help my friend decide.

Kenny VS Spenny

OMFG, I recently "discovered" this great show. They started playing it on Comedy Central and I caught one episode, "Who can eat the most meat". This show is pure genius.

It's about 2 roommates, 2 best friends, Kenny and Spenny, who live together and have a TV show that is about them having competitions. Each episode is a different competition and they try their hardest to be the winner. The loser has to do the "humiliation", which is decided by the winner and is something that is truly humiliating.

At first I thought it was a "jackass-like" show, but it something new and original. Some of the competitions they have are "who can stay awake the longest", "who is the most convincing woman", and "who can win a beauty pageant". Some of the "humilations" are street walking, getting burped on, and pissing themselves.

Seriously, if you haven't heard of this show, you MUST check it out! I swear to God, after the end of each show I have to wipe the tears from my eyes from laughing so hard. I have never seen a show as funny as this one.

Spenny is the straight-laced guy who is a little paranoid and trys to play by the rules but always gets conned by Kenny. Kenny is the most manipulative, cheating bastard asshole that I have ever seen on TV. But the combination of the two is pure gold.

I just made it through season one and started watching season two. After seeing the episode "who can stay naked the longest", I was holding back my laughter not to wake up MY roommate, it is 4:30 in the morning as I type this.

I usually don't write about TV shows, but this one has blown me away and watch it the first chance you get.

My new TV

After some months of saving my pennies, the weekend finally came when I got my new TV. A 50" plasma TV! It weighed 140 lbs and was an absolute BITCH to move up to my place on the third floor, I thought I was going to die! Here's some pictures of this joyful occasion! I look a little funny in the last 2 pics because I was a little...drunk...hehe.

The Death and Return of the Macinclock

My "Macinclock" has been up and running for just about a year solid. If you're not sure what I'm talking about, here's the original link, http://djdingo.com/macinclock.html Well on Sunday, Daylight Savings Time rolled around and I went around my place changing every single clock and the system time on all devices that kept track of it, took about 30 minutes total.

When it got to the Macinclock's turn, I found the Apple mouse and plugged it into the RUNNING computer to change the time. As soon as I plugged it in, I got some weird error message and was forced to restart the machine. When I did that, I got this on the screen...

For those of you that don't know what that means, that's called the "sad mac". It's like the "blue screen of death" for Windows, but it's worse. If you get this right after you power on your Apple computer, it means you have a hardware problem. Most of the time it basically means...you're fucked.

I can't believe this happened to me, why? I love this stupid thing, my roommate and I look at it all the time for the time, it's a clock and an awesome one at that. It's been running a year solid and I've connected the mouse and keyboard to it before while running and I've never had a problem. Well this time it was a problem. My best guess is that when I connected the "PS2-like" connector, it shorted out and killed my Mac. After a bit of research, I found out that the error code the sad mac was telling me meant that the BIOS was hosed. If that happens, you're REALLY fucked. Shit.

This really ruined my day! I needed to see if I could get this thing running again. Later that night I jump on eBay, find one real cheap that is ending in an hour and I "buy it now". The seller is in West Des Moines too! I ask to have it shipped to my stepdad's frame shop and when I get up the next day, the seller already hand delivered it! (No, I didn't have to pay for shipping.)

I get the "new" Macintosh SE home, put in the After Dark floppy disk, get it installed and find out it's not going to work on the new Mac. For some reason the new Mac had a extremely stripped down version of the operating system and was missing EVERYTHING needed to get After Dark to run. There was no control panel and just about EVERYTHING I clicked on, no matter what file it was, nothing would open! Shit.

OK, plan B. Swap parts. I first take out my old hard drive and put it in the new Mac, it boots up but I get some "memory manager error". It asks me to reboot, I reboot and I'm stuck in that cycle. Great now what. I do some more research and find out that my original mac is a "Macintosh SE" and the newer one is a "Macintosh SE FDHD". Besides the floppy drive, the hardware was identical. So I take the new motherboard, put on the old memory and put it back together in my old mac with my old hard drive. Boot it up and I jump for joy, the son of a bitch works!

Phew! Back in business. Good to have her back too! In case you're interested, here's a few pictures I took of this small project...
